OHSU researcher unlocks clues to Oregon's high health care prices
Oregon families need quality, affordable health care to stay healthy. Yet even with health coverage, many still struggle with medical bills they can’t afford.
“Getting a handle on costs is crucial, as higher health care spending burdens low and middle-income individuals,” said John McConnell, director of the OHSU Center for Health Systems Effectiveness.
McConnell conducted his own analysis in May 2019 to understand how Oregon measures up when it comes to the cost of health care.
Here’s a snapshot of what he found: in Oregon, health care prices are high and the utilization of health care services is low.
